Author Topic: Hypocracy and Hypocrates.  (Read 3162 times)

Okay. Yeah. Obviously this can start into a flame war, which, hopefully it doesn't.

I was thinking on the way home today--is it not better to be a hypocrate for the sake that you already experienced what you're talking about? I'm not saying being one is a good thing, I'm just saying that it's not as bad as people make it out to be. No, I'm not attempting to defend myself from anything, neither did I do anything as to why I should, but if you think about it, if you've already done what you're talking about, you would, in fact, know more about it.

See what I mean?
It's not a complaint or a rant, it's just a little thought I had.

Now that thats out of the way. Valid point.

are you trying to say hypocrite? hippocrates is a person

I'm sorry, I had to:

Hippo Critical :D

Ignoring flame war. (or perhaps edging one on :D )

Wait, so you're saying it's good to be a hypocrite? And your logic is, if you've done it, it's ok to tell someone one thing then go out and do another? That's bullstuff. That's like saying it's ok for a murderer to preach nonviolence, or a doctor who smokes. I mean, once you're a hypocrite, your opinion on things becomes very dwindled. So if someone has done something but tell you to do another, and they themselves make no attempt to correcting their own wrongs, then you shouldn't listen to them. They know nothing of what they're talking about.

Well personally I think it's all dependent really.

Like sure a murderer preaching non-violence is a tad extreme; but thats what the ideal justice system would create.

however i think hes talking more along the lines of a smoker telling kids not to smoke because the smoker knows how much it sucks to be addicted and have to deal with the consequences every day.
or even a paralyzed person telling you to buckle up, giving the example that when he didn't, he got in a car crash and became paralyzed from the neck down.

there can really be no true definite line between hypocrisy and advice based on experience.

Well you're right, which leads us further to the point that what he's describing isn't hypocrisy at all.

So then, we have no argument. :D

Whether one is a hypocrite of their own advice or not, people are still apt to go forth and make the mistakes on their own. It's the only way they'll learn and honestly, is the only way a person should have to learn. That's what natural selection is all about. Yeah it'd suck if that lesson left mommy and daddy one kid less, but if they were dumb enough to have love with a power tool and electrocute themselves, then I don't feel sorry for them either.

See under: Darwin awards (one of the best sites ever!)

I smell spelling errors.

Or they could be smelling errors, let me ask my dictionary.

I think it's hypocrisy and hypocritical, but my Webster's might be wrong.

I think it's hypocrisy and hypocritical, but my Webster's might be wrong.

Yeah I'm not sure if mines right either. And I have 7!

And I have 7!
Why? I mean having an Abridged and Unabridged dictionary is understandable but 7? Pfft.
