Author Topic: downloading add-ons I already have?  (Read 540 times)

So whenever I join a server, I have the all the download options on, save for music.  Now I realize that naturally this would cause me to download .dts files and such, but I've noticed that I'm always downloading add-ons I already have with the download features enabled, and if I don't download them, I can't see the models and whatnot.

So before I report this as a bug, I have two questions:

1) Can anyone else replicate this?

2) Is this not a bug at all?

V11 Problem 6:  From a clean install of the game, it can take literally hours to connect to a server because of all the crap you have to download.  This is a major blow to the initial user experience.

V12 Solution:  There are now numerous downloading options in the network settings tab that allow you to choose which things you want to download.  For example, if you have weapon model downloads disabled and connect to a server that uses a weapon you don't have, you will simply use the default gun model.  There are some clever bits of code in there that will choose a suitable default model - for example, anything with a "melee-like" name such as "bronze sword" or "axe" will use the sword model.

Side Effect:  When you drop an item there may be some slight prediction errors (warping) because the weapon model you're using might not be the same size as the one on the server.
Is that what you are talking about?

No. The same thing happens to me, I have the newest timebomb, my friend has the newest timebomb, yet when I joined his server for the first time I was downloading it.

Is that what you are talking about?
No.
I have to download add-ons I already have when entering servers.

Are you sure it doesn't just seem that way because of the interminable list of renamed add-on and recycled files in different folders?  Can you give me an example of a specific server where this is happening?

No specific server, it does it for all of them, but for a specific, KC's private server did it, Melonking's CityRP did it, and a few others.

And it may be renamed add-ons, because it's usually just a few of them that do it, but I'm pretty sure it isn't renamed because the file path and folders are named the same when I download from servers.

Is it actually writing the files to disk?  Do they actually show up in your add-ons folder?

From what I can tell, they are not.
Obviously the zipped add-ons are there, but not the normal folders that are used for server downloads.
So I don't think it's actually downloading files, but it appears to be.

So it's not writing the files to disk, but it's not throwing an error, so it must think it's writing them to disk.  Sounds a lot like a permissions or virtualization issue.  Like you don't have permission to write to disk so it's writing to some sandbox area instead.

Are you running vista or XP?
Are running any kind of weird user account configuration?
Are you running any kind of 3rd party security/protection/system restore software?

Vista.
No, and Blockland isn't in my Program Files so I have access to save there (C: Drive).
No, and I gave Blockland full access anyway.

When I enter another server it is possible that I will redownload addons that I already have, and it puts them into new folders (not .zip) in my addons folder to acess for the item, is this not supposed to happen, cause if so, I have the same error.
