so why did he downgrade to 98? that's the dumbest thing i heard all day lol
Exactly my point here. He is unwilling to try and fix his computer correctly. Not only that, he screwed it up by deleting Hal9000.dll

some of us prefer not to have to pay 300 dollars. and it was the hal.dll file. i didnt have a windows xp cd, i only had a  98, so i was advised to downgrade. i wasnt gonna go to Milleium (ME), ive been there, done that. If your not gonna halp the topic, dont post. and i didnt delete hal.dll it got fried when i was playing your server on blockland and lost my power.

you shouldn't have to buy OS's normally.
they come with computers you buy, and generally the hardware matches the OS necessary at the time the computer was new. so up or downgrading is most times a bad idea, unless you intend to upkeep the hardware.

its stuffty to keep telling people to buy new computers, but in some cases people just need to give in or give up. these are computer games we are talking about.
