Author Topic: Alien Concept Art for game  (Read 6341 times)

Needs to be more orthographix.

Absolutely no perspective, and it just looks like a loving stuffstorm of random lines.  Along with that, although many things don't contain symmetry, you're showing it from the front, and it lacks any similarities from one end to the next.

forget you man.
I hate how "everyone" looks up to you for art advice.

Here is one thing about art.
Its art.

Now shut up.

Art, in its purest form.. Is completely unique. We don't need some fat white kid on the other end of the line telling people whats good and whats "Terrible".

I suggest you learn proper ways of showing admiration, or "constructive" criticism... Because your methods suck. As i said before, "Its art" Meaning, it can look like what ever the hell the person wants it to look like. Now now, i can understand some comments like "Oh, it needs some work" Or "Oh, its pretty good, keep up the good work!" But, this
That's terrible.

You know what Lalam24. Your terrible.

I do admit that I could've been more on the positive side, but I've seen far greater on this forum, some of which I have looked upon, altogether, with shame.

I'll say this, I'm sorry to DiabeticRage.  But, being that I couldn't see anything that aroused my interests within the picture (and I didn't feel like nitpicking, MtnDew), I stated my opinion as simply as I saw fit.

Also, DiabeticRage, if you can't handle negative criticism, then why would you post it?  You can't just expect everyone to admire something you made, just because you feel like they should.

And, if this helps, tip:  Don't just wing it; try to plan out the thing (hence the fact that it was done in marker).  And if you attempt to use the excuse that concept art is supposed to look bad, then go look through Atticus's old posts.

It's good, but I have some ideas for you.

I see that you were thinking of an elite while drawing this. However, if you change the form of the face and the anatomy, you would make a unique alien. Try to make it have a different personality from the other games, not blood thirsty species that like violence, but you should make them an ally, or making them the protagonist in it.

I'll give you some advice on anatomy, try thinking of an animal, and try combining another animal, then give them an unusual color. So a dog combined with a cat combined with a reptile is fine, as MtnDew said, you're an artist, you could can choose to make it badass or make them look like a "lowerclass" type of character.

It's what Bungie and Valve did.

I'm not saying that you have to admire it, I'm just saying that if you don't like it, don't just post "It's a piece of stuff" actually say what's wrong. And, as for it to look bad, I never once said that, I said that it doesn't have to be a complete masterpiece for it to be considered concept art. Like, really, I know people that do concept art for Ensemble Studios, and, this would look like a masterpiece. All concept art has to display is what the actual thing is, and some simple structures for it. It doesn't have to be that when you look at it you completely climax.

I never once thought of an elite when drawing this, but, now that I look at it, I see what you're saying. As for the anatomy, I can understand that, my modeler already has this, but, we might make another one of this sort that well, more badass I think would be the right thing to say?

I would like to try out your game once you're done with it, looks interesting.

It needs work, but it's a good start. If you want a suggestion, try making everything a little more proportional.

1) Make the head larger so it's proportional to the body and make a more obvious neck so that people know it's the head (I thought it was a gun of sorts at first)
2) The hands are good if you want them to be huge and claw-like. If not, try downsizing them BUT JUST A LITTLE
3) The right leg (from viewers perspective) seems a lot smaller than the left, so try making that a little bigger.

Other than that, it's really good.

1) You did a great job of making the chest armor, but it kind of looks like there's smiley face near the right shoulder (from viewers perspective)
2) The waist is exceptionally proportional to the chest and you did a good job on the chest armor
3) The left leg looks great

No one should expect negative criticism. What you did was anything but constructive.
Your not one to talk, sorry.

Everyone should expect a wide range of criticism.  Producing false hope isn't a good thing, Pandan.

And yes, I am one to talk, because I know what I'm talking about.

I expect negative criticism, how the forget do you improve otherwise? I mean, no one is perfect, you can't expect that everyone will be like "I LUV, NOTHING IMPRVOE YU CAN" This is the reason I hate blockland today, every build is a "10/10"
I can't tolerate that.

Pandan dun be so close-minded.

Producing false hope isn't a good thing, Pandan.
You don't have to produce false hope, you could just ignore it.

Besides, another person will tell them how to improve rather than critisizing it.

You don't have to produce false hope, you could just ignore it.
You obviously didn't understand what I was implying.

it's an elite.

enough said.
