Author Topic: Numbers are in, I have ADHD: Innatentive  (Read 1808 times)

Yup, the math doesn't lie. I got evaluated by a doctor that specializes in attention disorders and sure enough I have ADHD, and it so happens to be the dangerous type you can't really identify right off the bat unless you get checked.

The doc was sharp as forget, I posted another thread about how I thought I had ADHD from the get-go before going to see him, and in the end of the evaluation he said he had picked up on the fact that I thought I had it while I was doing the second test. He also said the tests work towards hampering things like self-diagnosis and other mindsets, so the results were not affected.

On the bright side, my mathematical skills and attention to detail are ridiculous, and I'm apparently in the 88th percentile (meaning, out of a population of 100 people, only 11 would be capable of performing better psychologically and intellectually). With the effects of ADHD, I'm currently performing around 65th percentile. It's a pretty big difference, it explains why I'm even capable of passing most of my courses.

So they gave me medication synonymous to ritalin, except it works allot better into the average adult's day (take once per day instead of 3). They're going to titrate the medication concentrations up until I get the maximal effects out of it. So far I've been seeing a small difference, I'm starting to notice more things.

Anyhow talk about attention disorders here.

There's allot of mis-diagnosis going around. It's a good idea to get evaluated by a psychologist or a specialist in the field, I don't like to say doctors might be wrong but it is a current problem that the medical society is quite aware of.

Plastic containers are actually the harshest contributors to allot of disorders.

My brother has ADHD. The same you have.
He's annoying as forget, at least you can handle it.

I've got OCD and minor Schizophrenia.

Why aren't you ever on MSN? >:(

I've got OCD
me too. actually for me it's been a beneficial condition, since up to 5th grade, i was ignorant and a mild spaz. but now i've calmed down and i'm the smartest in my class.

Your brother is probably just taking advantage of his diagnosed ADHD to act up and get away with it. It's fairly common.

I don't really know how it effects me positively.
I bite the skin off of my fingers, and keep going even after I'm bleeding, I comb my hair like 80 times a day, and I bite the inside of my mouth (lips) until they bleed.. And keep going.

Edit:
Bites, yeah, I know. I agree with you. My parents don't believe it.

ADHD doesn't exist. Kids are supposed to be naturally hyper and inattentive. People are just becoming too lazy to deal with it and that lack of attention and care for their kids (or just spoiling them all the time) is what's helping kids become more rebellious. It's sad because the more a parent tries to parent the more special interest groups come in and claim abuse or neglect and have them taken away so kids can never learn proper boundaries. They tried to pull that crap with me when I was a kid and my dad knew better. He knew I was just spoiled and needed a reality check.

Doctors only do it so often because it's part of their "If we can push pills on someone, we get a part of the profits" Like Muffinmix said, a psychologist or psychotherapist is more prone to take the time to figure it out as they are trained specifically to know.

[/conspiracy theorist]
I was never hyper. Never hyper, or "inattentive."

Is it annoying having to take pills every day? I'm the only one in my immediate family that doesn't.
