Also theres some confusion on jiggypuff in Super Samsh Bros. Brawl.

Kirby's a guy, Jigglypuff can be male or female like a normal animal.

Jigglypuff is a pokemon, not based on any specific one. Thus making it possible to be either one. The same goes for Pikachu.
Only certain pokemon are restricted to specific genders.

the jigglypuff in super smash bros is a male, i had always thought, but jigglypuffs can be male or female as can be most other pokemon

but yet it turns out they always referred to the jigglypuff in smash bros as 'it' so who knows
