Mac vs. PC

Mac is based on Unix, which is what Linux is based off of. It's generally a stable system, and can call data quickly. Therefore, it can access smaller amounts of RAM quickly, and use the Hard Drive with low latency.
It also has good low-priced video editing.

Windows Vista has no widely-distributed mainframe, and nobody's really sure how it works or how it processes data. It needs more RAM than XP and 7, which will be released later this year or so, and it calls that data slower than 7. Vista also uses a large amount of space for logs, which takes a good portion of even my 4GB RAM to write.

I'm not saying all of Windows is bad at video editing. Windows 7 might get my attention enough to switch back over completely, because at this time, I have both operating systems, and two laptops.

Good answer. So perhaps the operating system is superior for video editing, but the problem here is that mac hardware is very expensive - here's an example.

So you're absolutely right, but the fact that the operating system is more efficient for this sort of thing it is easily overshadowed by the fact that you can get better hardware for PCs at a third of the price. Still, don't take me for a die-hard PC "fanboy" or whatever the devil you people call them these days because I'm not here to sell microsoft's products for them and neither should any of you. I just think that this point needs to be made. Macs have some great features and are renowned for their simplicity. Support for games is on the rise (but is still rather unremarkable at the moment) and they are great machines for people who just want a machine that works without much fussing around.

Or you can buy a 24" iMac with similar specs to your custom for $1,499.00.  That includes a monitor, mouse and keyboard too. A 24" monitor is ~$200-$500

Plus, the mac hardware probably high quality because its not bargain hunting from Ebay. Its not all about specs.

Both processors are from the same manufacturer. Both video cards are from the same manufacturer. None of my stuff is generic. So what are you talking about?

You're missing the fact that Apple selectively markets to people who do not know how to use a computer.  The macintosh user identifies himself as ignorant and disabled.  When a task comes up that sounds difficult, he automatically assumes that he can't do it.  Most of the time he is correct.

I use a PC. Why? Because anything I would ever want to do on a mac, I can do much better on a PC because I learned how to use my computer and it's applications. Most people, when they buy their PC, do not go through the tours and walkthroughs that the thing offers upon first activation. What happens after that? Well they keep doing the wrong things, can't maintain it properly, use incompatible upgrades, overclock things poorly due to under descriptive online sources, surf research and get tons of viruses, and then when their PC takes a crap. It's obviously because the computer sucks. It's never the user's fault because obviously they know everything there is to know about computers, yet can only take it to some entrepreneur led freak at Best Buy when something goes wrong.

tl;dr: pcs and macs suck if the people who buy them are morons. Learn to use them properly or get off the internet.

But you're not comparing a whole computer to a whole computer. What about your motherboard, case, and internet card? It isn't hardware, but you're also gonna have to buy windows for that.

I'd bet this kid doesn't know he is using linux if he has a Mac.

Every OS is Unix based than the MS + IBM (Erm, OS/2) OSs.

Plus, Linux has more gaming features than the Mac.

If you're a Mac fanboy like me though, go emulate Mac OS 9 to get over it :D.

I agree that Apple hardware is more expensive, but be a little more unbiased with your comparisons. I can find a Apple machine for less than that by bargain hunting on eBay. I'd be curious to see a price comparison between your machine (which sounds damn fine btw) and a comparable Apple where your prices are for items directly from the manufacturer, or reasonably close (Apple doesnt manufacture its cards, processors etc).

Also, factor in the cost of the OS that you had to buy because you didn't get it free (preloaded), a mid level music creator, mid level video editor suite, a couple things that come on an Apple.


I'm not saying the Apple won't still be more expensive, but you were leaving a couple hundred bucks of gear out.
