Your definition of 'Machine gun' is very broad. A true machine gun is something like an M249, the MP5 in the poll is a sub-mnachine gun and things suck as an AK are Assault Rifles.
For me, UMP45. Awesome.

Shotguns can be used at a distance and still hit a target with multiple pellets, depending on the ammunition you're using.

Most notably "dart" slugs used for hunting. Seriously; those things are really nice when you go for Kangaroo :D

Also 5.84 mm rounds are quite nice for distance.

Also, This is a machine gun:

You probably mean a light machine gun or quite simply an assault rifle.

This is a assault rifle:

The difference between a machine gun and a assault rifle is quite obvious. A machine gun is very high caliber and nearly always comes with a tri/bi-pod for further support. An assault rifle rarely does come with one and when it does it is usually a bi-pod used for precision and I would love to see a precision machine gun.

Double toast.

To put it simply; an assault rifle is a weapon used for selective fire. An machine gun is fully automatic weapon that fires bullets from either a belt or large cartridge.

Show me a semi-auto Machine Gun that fires using a standard cartridge and I will eat my hat.

Melee. Specifically, my bare hands.

Whenever I try and punch something I tend to hurt myself moreso than it.

Wrong. A light machine gun is belt fed, assault rifles are fed through magazines. and Large caliber? I can have an AR-15 (Civilian M-16) chambered in .50 beowulf, instead of .223.

Speaking generally. My bad about the light machine gun.

One of my favorites, the M1 Garand.

I've always wanted to fire one of those. So far All I've fired is a old Winchester rifle. I hear the M1 has a painful kick back.

Locking do to fail.

Unlock do my stupid brain.
