There was a 2-D mod in V8, but it was never ported.

it was ok, it was kinda buggy, and I don't like how you couldn't go backwards, that was kind of lame.

It turned your character to the side, kind of emulating 2d, but it made your character not move correctly and very jumpy. It was also lagy and you couldn't turn around backwards! :/ It was a bit disturbing that so many people were using it at the time...
