Author Topic: How bad my laptop is(Fixed), discussing how bad our computers are :D  (Read 1719 times)

You guys know as well as I do how aggravating it is to be stuck in a boring place with little or no video games. Try a restaurant dinner where everyone speaks in a foreign language you don't know, and there's no one to talk to, not to mention the food sucks. But there's only one disappointment.

That disappointment? Finding out how bad your laptop really is. I know I complain about my laptop a lot and how much it sucks. But when you hear this next sentence you will loving stuff bricks.

MY LAPTOP CANNOT PLAY DOOM II ON HIGH QUALITY.
Serious. Walking around is fine but shooting a weapon or looking at another monster is painfully laggy.
forget. I can't wait to recycle this stuff and buy something decent, oh I don't know, maybe a laptop that really doesn't suck.

EDIT: Holy forget, as if it couldn't get worse, it can't even play it in LOW QUALITY. Srsly, wtf?

I found the cause being sound effects loving it all up because incompatibilities with my sound card and the sound cards required by DooM II. I'm now playing with just the music of DooM II.

Discuss how much your computers suck anyway.

You can't, unless you spend around 5,000 any new laptop you buy is going to, by default, suck. It's like a built in setting you can't adjust.

If you want portable entertainment get a PSP or sum such.

I just want a laptop that will actually be decent and won't lag up with 3-4 Firefox tabs, MSN and steam. I've seen good Asus laptops at around $900.

The box may say something like "2.4ghz dual core" or sum such and that may sound good for a laptop, especially compared to your old one but it's not. Unless you need a laptop (for school, work, whatever) do not buy one. As far as the technology goes it will be a brick in 2-3 years, not due to being broken but due to being badly out-dated.

Then there is the very limited battery life of using a laptop for anything other than sitting there, most can't even finish a movie unplugged. That Asus won't be able to finish a movie, not if it's only $900. How do i know this? because the good batteries often cost $500 by themselves.
there is no such things as a good, cheap integrated video card. It may claim to have nice specs on the box but wait till you get it home and you can't run blockland because it does not support openGL.

I could go on and on but it's up to you. If you want to look cool hauling around a magic computer box, go ahead. Just remember that you were warned.

Don't buy a laptop unless you need one.

i guess ill get a desktop
More importantly: Build your own. It's actually fun aside from solving technical problems like WHY WONT IT TURN ON D:

EDIT: I found the cause of the lag, apparently the audio makes me lag somehow. Incompatibility with sound cards?

I have a Sigma-Tel C-Major Audio, the choices for Music Playback Device in Doom 2 Config setup are as follows:
-General Midi
-Sound Blaster AWE32
-Sound Canvas
-WaveBlaster
-UltraSound
-Pro Audio Spectrum
-Sound Blaster
-Adlib
-None

The choices for SoundFX playback device in the same config setup are as follows:
-UltraSound
-Pro Audio Spectrum
-Sound Blaster
-PC Speaker
-None

Sound Blaster for both Sound Effects and Music cause lag. Help?
