open with Preview
select "Alpha" from the drop-down selection menu in the top of the window
drag so that the red stuff cover all the white, and nothing else
PC:
Open with Paint.net
set image type to RGB
if background isn't already that boxy grey-white thing, select the unwanted white.
delete.
