Author Topic: Well... I'm trying to come back...  (Read 1176 times)

The problem though is, I have a rare case in which my Vid card has no real support for this game (Geforce 8500). I've done my research and it's a very weird problem. It has to do with Vista's nasty support for OpenGL. I can run the game, but it is guaranteed it will crash at a random moment, only the game crashes though. Its only older games or backwater games like this one (I mean no offense). And I don't know about you, but I can't stand building something huge, then losing it because this nasty situation went into effect.

Before any elitist buttheaded type try to talk stuff about maybe my computer sucks.. no... It does not and no other games cause this problem on my computer. Like I said, I did my research and from what I've read, I could have a computer 4 times the power of this one, and the same problem will occur. The only hope is if somebody makes drivers for Geforce considering older and backwater games, but that is NEVER going to happen. The newer games run fine, and never had any problems and never will. The simplest solution would be to install XP and run it to play this game, however at the moment that is not an option.

So, I may still play the game, but don't expect to see me on all the time, because it will eventually piss me off if I keep losing the game, seeing as the crashes are completely random and unpredictable. I could go a day without crashing at all, or have 5 crashes in 1 hour. My main solution around this is to run a dedi then join it and the server will never go down, just me crashing then I can come right back, but that is a huge pain especially if the server filled up and I can't come back.

Anyway, someday when I have lots of time on my hands, I will try to solve this problem. Otherwise, I'll try to show up every now and then if time permits it. This is just to show why I have given up on this game in the past. It's a very annoying problem.

Also, do not try to post me "solutions" because you think you know the answer. There is No answer and anyone trying to tell me there is, just is showing me that they cannot read my post. Don't worry I don't hate everyone, otherwise I wouldn't be trying to come back now would I? I only hate some people, and they know who they are.

BABY COME BACK! OOOOOO YOU CAN BLAME IT ALL ON YOUR GRAPHICS CARD!

If your server is full, there is a mod called Reserve Slots, you can enter a list of IDs that will be accepted into the server when it's near full.
You could just set the slots to 1, put in your ID, then you'll always be allowed to join.

That sounds very cool and I may do just that. Currently I'm trying to get my map working, as for some weird reason Trash Man World 7 will no longer load in V12, but did in V10, and I am trying to solve the problem. Once I get the problem solved, or just give up, I'll probably start running a server again.

I have an nVidia card, too, and have been having similar problems. My game stopped crashing after I installed the latest drivers (190.38), though.

My situation is a bit more evil than most people's. I have yet to see a stable driver release from Nvidia that lets me play THIS game with no problems. Everyone's computer is slightly different, so for some the new drivers may solve the problem, but others may still have issues.

Edit: I'm going to install that driver anyway seeing as it's only a few days old. I still doubt it will help any, but here's hoping it actually does help.

If your graphics card is permanently damaged or something,
you can host a passworded dedi for your builds, if it crashes everything wont be lost...
So you can probly do that.

Like I said above. Please, for the love of god, don't try to post me your guesswork answers. My graphics card is not damaged................ I already KNOW the problem. It is one that cannot be easily resolved.

And you basically repeated what I already said otherwise about the dedicated thing. Please be sure you fully read a post before you say stuff.

I guess you won't be "back" for too much longer, I don't think there is anyone with the patience to deal with that problem.

Anyways, hello goodbye.

It's not too bad if I run dedicated like I said in my first post. If I crash I just rejoin, and thanks to the mod, I can just have a slot reserved for myself, making it always possible for me to come back. This was the only thing that made me not like it before.

Like I said before, I sometimes don't crash at all. So far when I played today, I haven't crashed the game. I did download those drivers though, so maybe they actually helped, who knows. I won't be able to say for sure unless I go for a week without crashing, or play for longer durations.

I'll be leaving my server ONLINE, and I will check it every now and then to see if anyone shows up or stays. Otherwise, I'll try again tomorrow to see if anyone is online.

It's only a minor problem now that I've got things set up the way I like. If I crash, it's no big deal and I can just come right back. Now all I gotta do is solve my map problem and I'm golden. Either that or I'll just make yet another map.

Edit: Well, things are looking good. I ran the game for 12 hours without a single crash. If it doesn't crash for the next 2 days, then I know for sure it's finally gone. Looks like those drivers may have helped after all. But, I'm not going to consider it just yet as it's too soon to tell.
