Author Topic: Do I teach this kid guitar? (Read 2775 times)

Alright I've got a moral question for you all (because it's always fun to see what the heck you guys are going to say), so sit back and listen

Alright, I know this kid who is absolutly TERRIBLE at playing guitar, he's been playing for 8 months and still can't do a basic chord change without stopping and looking, let alone his strings still pop. Anyway he doesn't have money to pay for lessons, and he know's I play for several bands and now he wants me to teach him. Do I attempt to teach this failure of a player driving myself and him crazy? Or do I make him hate me for life by saying "go away"

Teach him the basics, and tell him to practice. If he sucks at it still he's not practicing. If he still even sucks the guitar is just not for him.

I played for 3 months, I know how to read guitar tabs and change notes pretty fast. Tell him to give up.

Tell him straight up that he sucks and should give it up all together.

I look at the keyboard when I type, have been for over 10 years now. Doesn't mean it'll hinder my performance at all. Let him look at the strings, hand eye coordination is prime in getting him to learn. Some people can only learn in that manner. Give it a shot for a month and see what happens. Just tell him it's not a permanent thing.

took me like a week to learn how to change shords and read them too. just teach him, and if he sucks, tell him he should try other instrements

Dont listen to the guys to let him give up! I leared the piano in 6th and I had to stop but know i can play cannon, furelise and hall of mountain king! Note: the teacher let us work at our own pace!

I practice by going back and forth slowly, then fast. try it, it helped me.

so his own pace is 8 months and he still can't play a 3 chord song?

Alright I guess I'm gonna give this kid one shot. His guitar is a piece of stuff though, it cost him 80 bucks brand new, buzzes all over the place
