Oh hey guys I did a cover

So I decided to cover Radiohead.

The song is Airbag, but I did a shorter arrangement.  If music was programming, this track would be considered "rapid prototyping".

The whole thing was done in two hours, by me.  I'm playing every instrument, which includes lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar, and drums.

The tom-toms on the drums are way too low.  But I didn't want to record the entire drum track again, so yeah.  I also have left foot problems, meaning that my open hi-hat lasts an extra eighth note 90% of the time.  Annoying, but a simple turn of a tuning key will fix that for next time.

No singing, yet.  Next track I do I will definitely try to put some vocals in there.

For all the curious people, I'm playing a G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy for the lead guitar and rhythm guitars, an Ibanez SR 1000 EFM for the bass, and a Roland TD-3 for the drums (they're electronic).  Each and every instrument was first hooked to their respective amplifiers/monitors, then hooked up to my Mac's external soundcard (with a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter) through the "Line Out" or "Headphone" jack.  In other words, no microphones involved.  This setup works beautifully, I can get wonderful sound quality, and there's no fiddling around with acoustics.  Everything was put together and mixed in Garageband.

I'm not getting any noise on my end, even with a fresh copy.  I've sent this around to a couple others and they can't hear any noise.

The hissing is a result of you not using a filter to take out the high end hissing on your guitars, and you probably didn't do it on any of the ones you did, so when all of them were recorded, it stacked up causing a nasty sound in the high end which muddies up the mix. If you can't hear it, then you may need to get your ears checked, or get better speakers. Keep in mind its not upfront and isn't a huge issue, but it's definitely there and should be looked into.

Anyway, that aside, this is a pretty nice cover. I didn't like the intro much, but you probably can't help that.
Some of the distortion in the harmony guitar gets a little weak and muddy at points. The panning on the lead guitar was done nicely. You may want the harmonic guitar to stand out a bit more though, as it just muds itself in the back too much due to bad distortion settings. Also your bass seems sparse and I feel it could be used more often in the song if possible, as the parts without it just feel so blank after hearing the parts that do have it.

Overall, its a good song, it just needs some cleaning up to sound more solid.

You are right in that I did not use a filter.  However, I don't think that I need my ears checked or new speakers, thank you.

The intro and the sparse bass are apart of the song.  I specifically lowered the volume on the harmony guitar as it was standing out too much, and the focus is supposed to be on the regular melody.

Thanks for the feedback, though.  I know exactly what you are talking about with the hissing, but I didn't hear it enough to justify putting a filter on it.  Whatever.  I only spent two hours!

I guess you aren't "mature enough" to understand how the world works, and that everyone and everything requires honest feedback, which will not always be showering of compliments, as this is how humans have improved and evolved into making all things better than in the past. If it weren't for this, we'd all still be living in caves, because nobody would be listening to criticism about what could be better.

To those that don't notice the hissing...

hen you must need new speakers/headphones or possibly your ears checked. It's in the high end. If your speakers/headphones suck, you won't notice it. If you have a high quality system, it is present enough to become an annoyance.

I think the ones that don't notice it, just don't have a trained ear and don't notice the high end. It's there, and it's the main reason why the recording isn't clean and crisp, that and bad choices in mixing.

Edit, the performance wasn't bad. The reason I get like this, is because people (especially here in Blockland), seem to just want to ignore the reality of the world, and do not take feedback seriously enough and just discard it and continue in their unprofessional ways. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just saying what needs to be said, whether or not the people like it. Of course I know they can chose not to consider it, but when I see that same person attacking all negative comments, then I know that they definitely aren't doing things the right way.

I fully understand that you think I did something wrong, and appreciate you telling me so.  I simply don't think it's that big of a deal, mostly because this was all done very quickly, and I did it for fun, mostly.

What I don't appreciate, is the "you need your ears checked".  I most certainly have a trained ear, and a very nice setup, so I certainly notice what you are talking about, but I just don't think it is as bad as what you say it is.

Apparently, you didn't read the "If you can't hear the hissing" part before the "you need to get your ears checked". Which means it was only bad if you in-fact really couldn't notice it until people brought it up.

So if you already noticed it, then that comment should not have offended you. So please, lets just put it behind us, and move on.
