New D&D books are horrible to read. No fluff at all. The Shadowrun books have always had a good amount of fluff to explain the rules and give you perspective to the game world.

Have you read the new D&D books? There is barely any background information or explanation of the game world. It's very dry and boring reading.

I loving loved this game, my dad made me play it with him, my brother and I always wanted to play.
I got sliced in half by a giant fire demon, and stole his sword, then my brother dragged my body to an alter and payed all of our gold to bring me back to life.
