I'd expect it's still "Run..." with the "dxdiag" command.

You can push "Windows" and "R" at the same time to open "Run..."

Xubuntu has a couple of features snipped out of Ubuntu, but it doesn't make a very large difference at all.

Xubuntu was built and trimmed to run better on slower/older machines. Thus, it has lower minimum requirements than Ubuntu.

OS: Win2000 Pro (5.0 Build 2195)
System Model:Latitude CPt V466GT
Processor: Intel Celeron Processor, ~10MHz
Memory: 192MB RAM
Page File:82MB used, 377MB available

Need anything else?

10 Megahertz?

Are you sure that isn't 1.0 Gigahertz?

Oh, and not that it matters, but what does it say under the Display tab under Device?

well it said that, now it only says Intel Celeron processor
also, display>device:

Name: ATI Technologies Inc. RAGE P/M Mobility AGP 2X
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip Type: ATI RAGE Mobility P/M AGP 2X (A21/2)
DAC Type: ATI Internal DAC
Approx. Total Memory: 8.0MB
Current Display Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Generic Television

i would be careful upgrading from 2000 to xp.
xp don't run on DOS. the minimum requirements will be very different.

a pooter built for 2000 is likely not to great for xp (and any game/app you obviously will run on top)

I'd give Xubuntu a shot.

Judging by its age, even if you use it as a small server, it won't last long. And with that much RAM it won't be able to host much.

tomorrow, cant burn disks with my grandma's stuffty iBook G4

Huh, I have twice as much ram as he does (512mb) and I can host a 8-player Blockland server with minimal lag. BF2 Co-op 6 player seems to go well too. With an FTP server running in the background.

His is most likely DDR and extremely slow.

Probably not even that.

Maybe you could keep it working for 50 years and see if it qualifies as an antique. :D

should I overwrite win2000 with Xubuntu?

If you like Xubuntu enough, yes. It is faster (and cleaner) than win2000.

You don't need Windows for gaming seeing as that machine is not capable of it.

And for the games that you are able to play, you can use WINE.

Plus the laptop will feel a lot less outdated. Just make sure everything works such as sound, mouse, video, keypresses, etc..
