Author Topic: Stupid touch-keys are acting weird  (Read 1707 times)

So, my laptop has this row of keys at the top that are activated simply by touch, no pressure required. They include media controls (play, fast forward, etc.), volume controls, and an eject key for my disk drive.

A while after I got it, the keys started working on their own. Every so often, the volume-up key gets stuck and I have to mute so I don't blow my ears out, and my eject key gets stuck and my disk drive constantly attempts to eject the non-existent disk inside of it. Plus I can't use any of the other keys while another key is in use.

Any idea what's wrong?

is there anything on them

No. Even if I clean them off it still happens.

Possibly something under the pads. you should get it fully cleaned.

I prefer solid, mechanical buttons for this reason. It's virtually impossible to fix touch screens/buttons.

drag a magnet across them, worked for my friend

For some reason I don't trust you.

Well, if I could cut them off and replace them with those, believe me, I would.

also: you do know that there heat sensors, right?

No, I didn't. Could the area it's in be too hot?

OHH I have those too, and sometimes they malfunction.

I have similar buttons on my laptop, but they never act weird.

Take the keyboard apart and unplug them. they should be connected differently than the regular keys. That is what I did with the touch pad on my laptop.
