Author Topic: New computer?  (Read 993 times)

I only have $400 to spend, and I'm wondering if this will be a good computer. Specs:

-Processor
AMD Athlon™ II X2 245 Dual-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology AM3 & AM2+ support

-Memory
2 GB [1 GB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module Corsair-Value or Major Brand

-Video Card
ATI Radeon HD 4550 PCI-Express x16 - 512MB Single Card

Post anything else you need to know about it or what I should change.

I'm getting this from iBuypower.com btw.

I have an iBuyPower. It's very nice.

It sucks.

They use cheap parts, besides the major ones.
If you built this yourself you could make a nicer computer for $400.

... :/

yours is good because its one of the most expensive ones you can get.
his is $400
they buy the cheapest parts they can find and then splurge on things like the processor.

if he built this himself he could find some good cheap parts on newegg.

Oh, I see. Yea, now that I searched on google, you're right. Go along with the above poster's advice, and make your own, it's easier than you think if you make sure that you choose parts that work with each other. Most cases even come with some instructions.

My computer used to be ibuypower. It had a 2.2GHz single core AMD processor, 512 MB RAM and a 6800XT. Oh and a 400w psu. Was good, then the 6800XT crapped on me.

I'm not too great at finding parts for budget PCs, but it's always cheaper to assemble it yourself. My $2000 computer would have been $5000 from manufacturers.

I tried to build my own, but keep going over $400.

Also, you need a 64bit OS to use all 4 gigabytes of RAM.

See? I can't go over $400

You can't scrape up another $100 from your parents or something? That iBuyPower isn't gonna work in the long run.

I could try, I doubt it though.
