Author Topic: Scripting on a mac  (Read 969 times)

Ok, so I'm trying to learn to script by messing around with a copy of the gun, for some reason, after i make a small change, save, compress into a zip, put it into the add-ons folder, it doesn't show up on the list.

im using text edit to edit the server.cs, is that not a good program to edit the server.cs? or is it something else i needed to change in the script? or something else?

Did you happen to change other things before packing it into a separate .zip?
Like the nameCheck.txt, or make sure there's a Description.txt? That affects it largely.

the only thing i changed was the damage it did, as a small test.

I have the same problem
Here's what i did
i put the folder in the add-ons folder and then on add-ons list it showed 2 just enable them both and it works
And Text Edit is ok.

Use http://www.zipcreator.com/ on a mac, thats what I use when Im on a mac. It doesen't create those odd files that show up on windows. Edit some of the preferences on text edit, when you got them to your liking, it makes coding in any language really easy.

the zipcreator helped, but it seems now i have a new problem, if i try enabling the addon, it disables itself when i hit done, this is what it said in the console.log

"Add-On folder name contains ".zip" - will not execute (also please kill yourself)"

could help but laugh at that last part, lol

EDIT: never mind, i figured it out, apparently badspot added a type security so you cant take original files and rename them, to keep noobs from posting cheap edits i guess, never noticed that.

No, if you name a file .zip.zip, that's just handicapped.

Usually people who have extensions off are not ready to make add-ons immediately.

Sometimes people like it for their stupid reasons.

it didn't have .zip.zip in its name, and the extensions were not hidden -.-

and besides, its not like i plan on releasing anything, i'm just trying to teach myself.
