Author Topic: I attempt manga again :o  (Read 6654 times)

I never understood that the first time, and still don't now. Lol.

Inside joke with Zerves and I.

And anyone who flames will be challenged to do better by the hands of me.  If they DO do better, I will rock back and forth in the corner knowing I've failed.
I hate that defense you don't have to be better at something than another person to criticize that person.

This lpooks alright but I'm not a big fan of manga/anime/Asian drawing styles

Boop boop skiddle wee woop.

LOL

Except I only live in India for 1/12th of every year.

Added stuff to first post.

Pretty decent for off reference.

One of my original characters from back in the day.

Boop boop skiddle wee woop.

That's as forgeted up as regular anime.

:D

As a fellow manga artist I feel the need to antagonize you Inv3rted. You are my rival. I am the sith to your jedi, the yin to your yang. When it's all over I expect only one of us to be left standing.

Good luck or 頑張って as you might say.

I agree 100% with that link.

If you are starting out as an artist, don't do a single subject, try various subjects and keep going until you get things to look decent, then and only then, should you move to a favored subject such as anime. It will result in your work being many times better than if you just stayed in anime. Even so, you should always try to do varied subjects at least every now and then, so that you keep yourself open to new ways of making things, rather than just drawing only anime girls.

If you need to improve on something, draw from real world objects or people, and then learn from that. Once you get it down, and don't need to use a real world object to understand it, then that means you are ready to make whatever you want in that area (say the human body for example). If you still cannot make something without having to reference it, then that means you still need to study real world objects. You cannot hope to draw something imagined, if you can't even draw something that actually exists, as the imagined thing will always be worse than your realistic drawing. ALWAYS.

Anyway, to your drawings. You seem to make the eyes way too large, and the hair not thick enough. It looks like the hair ends right on the scalp and is only paper thin. Also, headsize is unusually large to the body, and you make the upper body more like a man's figure than a womans. So it looks like a man with moobs. You also seem to avoid drawing the crotch area, and just go with a straight line. You can't avoid that area if you are drawing something where everything else is attempting to be (yet you aren't getting it right) anatomically correct.

So yeah, I suggest you first try drawing some real women or something and then when you are ready, move on to manga or something. And yes, you will have to know how they look like naked before you can draw real ones or ones with clothes correctly. So if you are just a kiddie, then you probably won't be able to do this until you grow a few years older. If you can help it, try not to draw only women, but if you must draw only women, then do your viewers a favor by at least knowing what a real one looks like before you go drawing imagined ones.

Instead of saying I could be a "little kiddie", you can just check my profile. I am aware that any good artist needs a good foundation with basic realistic drawing, but drawing has never been more than something fun to do for me. It's been entertaining since I was a child, but I was never particularly good at it. It was entertaining because I was drawing solely from my imagination, instead of placing what I see in front of me on paper in a mechanical and mind numbing fashion.

This being said, to assume that I suck at drawing realistic things is a very douchebag move on your part. You've seen what, three drawings of mine? I may not be a good artist, but that's no reason to condescend.

And you can't say that I make my eyes too big when they're loving manga. To critique a purposefully unrealistic style as though it was is like blaming a cow for have an udder.

The final paragraph in your post was needlessly arrogant, and that says something about your character.

You are superior. I shall lay no claim to your title as supreme-manga-drawing-Japanese-fluent-overlord.
