Author Topic: Graphics Card and Video Card for BL  (Read 5335 times)

I have a geforce 9800GT with 1gb of vram. It's excellent and runs everything I have at max settings with a good framerate. Oh, except Crysis, I run that on high very nicely though.

Yes, your operating system will not stop you from installing a video card. Make sure you have a PCI-E slot though.

So XP Home can have a Video Card installed? I'm going to go check.
Is your computer a Dell, HP, or something else.

Don't say its an XP Home.  What does the box that has the button that turns it on say?  Pictures would be nice.

Dell. How do I check if I have a PCI-E slot?

EDIT: Pictures? Can't. I got BSOD. My PC is getting fixed monday.(Typing on my wii)

open the case on one side and find a slot that looks like this

Open it up, or post the model name/number, and we check.

Is there any other info on the front? Like a model number or something?

If you tell us the model we can find out for you.  Otherwise you would have to open up the case and look inside.  You'll have to open it anyway to install it.

You will be looking for this:

the second one from the end.

Make sure you turn off the computer before opening the case though.

I opened the right side and saw a square black card with intel on it, lemme check the left side and front for model number.

EDIT: Product key?

Intel? Chances are its a low-end graphics card. Intel isn't known for making good graphics.

I don't do that if I'm not going to be messing around with hardware :D.

Yea...

It's almost like Sims: "Here let me just start working on this thing here an- ELECTROCUTED OMFG"

I'm not messing around with hardware though. I don't even touch anything but the case side and case screws.

No.

Maybe that has XPS in it or something.  That should be the model.

If you have an external graphics card, it should be perpendicular to the motherboard (the giant chip thats flat against the back of the case.)
Like so:

If you dont see anything like that, look on the back of the case and see if any cables from the monitor are plugged in near the mouse and keyboard plugs.

Like so:

If it is plugged into something that looks like the plug labeled VGA in the pic, tell us.
