Author Topic: AVG Anti-Virus...Why does it seem it makes my computer slow?  (Read 1240 times)

Its odd...my dad has the AVG Anti-Virus open and it is running a scan and it seems everything is so much slower when its scanning.But it doesn't even have a window open.Just a thing near the clock... ._.

You don't need a window open for a program to be active.  Its scanning so it should be expected to make your computer a little slower.

AVG, has that new fangled live scan.

A little?!?...It takes me about 10 minutes just to load youtubes main page!Without AVG it takes maybe 10 seconds!...

it uses processing power
Slower CPUs and lower amounts of RAM = slower computing and less random access memory = slower computer.

If it's scanning, then no stuff, it's going to make your computer slow. -_-
In fact, mine just started a scan now. Osht

I had AVG installed on an ancient laptop of mine, and it would always scan without notifying me. It was irritating because all of a sudden the 1.5ghz Celeron processor was buckling, and I didn't know why. With my current computer I could play Crysis while doing a scan, but I switched to avast! anyway.

There's a button hidden somewhere deep within the options menu that says SCAN WHILE I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF SOMETHING
