Author Topic: I got a computer for hosting dedicated game servers. :D  (Read 2785 times)

Yeah I got an old computer from '98, threw a couple of parts and Windows XP on it and now it's my dedicated server computer
:D!
Earlier we played around on Garry's Mod hosted on it but nobody built anything so that idea is kind of meh
Anyone got any suggestions on what to host? (Yes I'm hosting Blockland later)

Gmod still, because I'm about to join.

IP?

I closed it down because I'm adding PHX, wiremod, assmod, CS:S, and TF2 objects to work.
Also I'm adding the animu pack.

Tf2

And make your bff Draco SUPREME OVERLORD

Good for you!

Too bad I don't care enough to buy any games on steam. D: (it would run better on consoles, anyway.)

use linux

use linux
I want to.
D:

The software I'm using on it is Windows only though

WINE some more.
Not when it's networking.
At least I don't believe Linux can run Wine for networking
:o

I've run source games on Linux without any problems with networking at all.  The only problem I've noticed is disconnecting from TCPObjects in torque which is probably my own fault anyways...

It isn't part of the game it's part of the system. The computer has to have connection software for an adapter I have on it because the ethernet jack is forgeted up.

Well try it out and see how it works.

Mine just works with linux out of the box.  No drivers were installed.

You can't host Linux servers for Gmod because it is unsupported, and through WINE, it is buggy stuff.

Also, what are the specs of that server, and what OS is on it?
