Author Topic: I got a computer for hosting dedicated game servers. :D  (Read 2779 times)

And when exactly are you hosting Blockland?
:o

And all I know is that it works loving perfectly
:D

Cool.

But if you have anything below a 1.6ghz CPU and 512mb of RAM, and hosting more than 8 people at once, there may be some issues.

I have a computer with a P4 3.2 GHz and 2 GB of RAM, how well would that run source games/blockland (dedicated)?

I dunno.
:P

Good for you!

Too bad I don't care enough to buy any games on steam. D: (it would run better on consoles, anyway.)

You're absolutely wrong. TF2 on xbox 360 feels awful, my friend has it. The same goes for HL2 and Portal.

And he's right too. I have it, we thought Portal would make a great gift for our dad but then he throws this stuff on us like "I solve puzzles every day blah blah blah" and such. It's a damn game, it's supposed to be entertainment not guaranteed office work.

It's an amazing game. It's just mediocre on xbox 360.

Exactly.

I really loving want this $800 Asus laptop once I get out of school, if it'll still be in production hopefully. When I do it probably means I'll use my desktop as a dedi or something.
For some really handicapped reason my school decided to have us use these stuffty dell laptops that can't do jack stuff. Opening the start menu is slow for me. I used to have 1.25 GB of RAM so I thought that was the cause, being the 1 GB stick was corrupt or something. Turns out something internal probably is corrupt, whoop dee doo. Did I mention this heats up like balls on a summer day?

I have a laptop more powerful than most desktops. And a desktop more powerful than most...tops.

I was thinking of saving money to buy parts for a computer I would use as a server, but first I need to get around the fact that Time Warner doesn't allow me to port forward.

You could host a 32-player server (or possibly more) on Source, providing you have the bandwidth to handle it.

Hosting GMOD with it now. Has CS:S, Wiremod, PHX, and the animu pack.
TF2 won't install materials correctly

Here is the ip. Favorite it and follow when I host and such.
