I'm going to give you the same spiel I gave Darkstar all those years back, that he called cinema gold for teens. I never thought that high of it, but here goes (I'm going to edit out the parts that don't apply to you):
There was no voice acting.
There was no indication of ANY names. I didn't even know who was who half the time. All of them looked a lot a like, and not one of them had names. How is an audience (even if its a blockland movie) supposed to connect to the same character 20 times? It leaves you feeling unwhole about the movie, like: "he died... big whoop."
The camera work was really bad. Was it supposed to look in game? Because with a brick menu lingering at the bottom, and the "E = Paint" can on the side got really annoying. Ever heard of F8? Plus it was constantly moving, and that just got aggravating. It felt like it was all one single shot.
The building was noob. Nothing looked spectacular, and everything was so plain and barren in colors and detail, you couldn't even appreciate the scenery. Now, this isn't really a factor in a movie made in blockland, but If you ever make a movie, make sure you don't shoot in empty rooms. The audience likes to look at the backdrop, it lets you know where the setting is, rather than "now we're in the blue room instead of the red room."
Good luck on the next project, I want to see more.
(P.S. I don't expect cinema gold to come out of blockland, but at least you could look a little professional)
Now. Things left out of this post.
There is a mod called "HUD Hider" I'd suggest looking into that, as seeing not only your paint can and items, but chat as well really ruins it for me.
The only move you have so far is a trailer, and while I know Warren released our ten minutes of Block War as a "trailer" it's really not. Trailers are meant to be short clips no more than a few minutes in length to give an audience just enough to want to see your film.
Lastly, I would suggest filming your game in windowed mode with a 1280 x 720 ratio. Assuming you use Movie Maker, there is an add on you can download that will allow you to output in widescreen. Now, why 1280 x 720 you ask? Well this is what is known as 720p (progressive scanning rather than interlaced) it's a form of High Definition that YouTube started supporting early last year. The video was squished and distorted, so it was hard to look at. Even if you don't want to film in widescreen, at least export it to the right aspect ratio so that YouTube can display it right.
Now, I love seeing people making movies, it's a passion of mine I've had since childhood. And I really do want their to be others making machinimas, so I support you fully on this. But I would suggest looking into certain things if you want to get serious about making films for a hobby. Trust me, the end result is quite satisfying. :D
EDIT: Yeah ok, so 2008 isn't technically "years back" but you get the point.
