Author Topic: The hell is up with this stupid anti-virus ad?  (Read 1865 times)

I'm looking around on these forums I go to an all of a sudden out of no where comes up a box saying I need to download this anti-virus program because I'm infected. So I close the box off and it changes the page to a fake page, and it shows "My Computer" in XP but I have Vista, and it says my computer is getting infected. I keep closing the ad and when I go back to the forums I go to it keeps popping up.

Is there anyway to make this annoying ad stop?

Okay, so I'm searching around one of the forums I go to, and all of a sudden this ad pops up saying I'm infected. So then it takes me to this page which is obviously fake because it looked like Windows XP and it said I was infected.

Is there anyway to make this annoying ad stop?

Get a REAL anti-virus with pop-up blocker?

Well which is a good one? Last time I used Avast! and the pop-up still came.

It's adware. It means you already have malicious software on your computer. You should run a scan.

I use Spybot and scan weekly.

No it doesn't.
This happened to me on STEAM with the built-in web browser on there. I quit out of the game and completely scanned my computer for malware/viruses/trojans, nothing.

As long as you don't download the rogue antivirus program, you're fine. It has something to do with the site being infected.

But yes, if that happens, quickly close out of the page. Don't download the software. Stay off the site for a few days.

I think Miga is right. My brother got the same website ad on his computer and he didn't go on it for a couple of days and he went back on and it didn't happen. So yeah I'll go off it for a couple of days and see what happens.

lol thats wat mcaffe site advisor does to me

Its uploads a virus on your computer you should have got out of it

It CAN upload a virus on your computer but it doesn't do it immediately.

Just do what MrCookie did, screenie for lulz and close. He sent me this hilarious pic of a fake virus thing on MSN.

AGV virus protection
You mean AVG correct?
Also, Avast! is better than AVG.
