How come the upload is always much slower???

You dont use upload very often.  Internet, games, etc are mostly downloading.  If you are a server, you need lots of upload.

How much is a megabit?

a bit is a 1 or a 0
a byte is a set of eight 1s and 0s
so a bit is 1/8 of a byte
so if you have an 8 mbps connection its would take you 1 second to download a 1 megabyte file

Level 3 of the internets backbone is currently stuffting itself. I can hardly get to half of the internet.
