You can't really make a custom gun. It is impossible for you to make your own gear box which entirely rules out making a gun.
It's not impossible wtf are you talking about.
It's really hard, but not impossible. You could also just modify a preexisting gearbox.

That's not making a custom gun though, that's modifying a pre-existing one, and, I'm not saying it's completely impossible to make your own gearbox but, I know for a fact that Thorax would not be able to.

I have access to a CNC machine and a bunch of industrial level power tools. But I didn't say I wanted to make everything from scratch unless I had to. I could just get all the parts I needed and put it together in a custom case.

Also, last time I checked, gas guns didn't need a gearbox. Learn airsoft.

EDIT: I'm not sure if case is the correct word, would it be shell, housing, or something else?

LOL YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE A GAS GUN? YEAH RIGHT LOL.

Good luck with that, it's not going to happen.

A semi-automatic gas rifle with a 200rnd mag. lol

READ his post. He wants to put the parts together, not create a gas gun.

If he's just buying some amarlite GBB Rifle and putting some after market parts on it, that's nothing special.

Btw: You never said it was going to be gas, and, goooood luck making a hicap GBB mag.

Anyone have any idea on how to build custom guns? I've gotten somewhat bored of airsoft, and building a gun would be a very fun way to get back into it. I want to make a semi-auto "rifle" with a large clip. I want it to have the accuracy of a sniper (more or less, I really just want it to shoot far without curving too badly), the clip of an assault rifle (At least 200 bb's), and powered by some form of gas.

You don't know much about airsoft, do you?

I'm going to draw out a diagram because I don't feel like explaining my whole idea word by word:

Blue = A basic pump shotgun I will be using as a starting point.
Red = The 200 round extended magazine that came with the shotgun.
Yellow = A longer barrel for more accuracy.
Green = A scope mounted on the rail built into the shotgun.
Purple = A CO2 tank (Normally used for paintball) that I could use to power the gun.

I'd take a basic pump shotgun (Metal so I can modify it easier without braking it) and swap out the barrel with a longer one. I will then use the extended mag that comes with most pump shotguns (200-300 bb's). As for the gas, I'll use the parts from a CO2 pistol such as the Crosman C11:

The C11 has the clips separate from the CO2 cartridge so I don't have to build a clip completely from scratch (Which is possible as my friend has done it). I will use a paintball CO2 tank as both a stock and the main power for the gun. The tank will be connected to the CO2 cartridge valve via a hose. There might also be a second valve so I can limit how much CO2 goes through the hose. Plus, the tank will balence out the gun.

Because the shotgun already has a rail, I can attach a scope to it no problem.

Wow, that's going to be one fugly gun. Nice image macro btw. If you do actually finish that project, I will eat a hat.
btw. There's no point in having a gas gun if it's not blowback, your project is a waste of time. Just buy a gun instead of working on some fugly co2 shotgun.

You're a loving moron if all you care about is blowback.

You're a loving moron if you carry around a big Co2 tank when you can just buy an AEG.

@Thorax This isn't paintball or the 90's when you HAD to do that. Just buy an AEG and save yourself the laughs you'll get carrying around that thing.

I loving own an AEG, stuff dip,  and I also own a gas gun.

Why the forget do you think I suggested that one kid to get the KS P90? Because I loving bought it.

u mad? I wasn't talking to you, hurr durr. The comments about the Co2 gun were directed at Thorax, calm down.

I own a gas gun too btw, I'm just saying, if it's not blowback, there's no point.

Oh, I see your edit.

I apologize.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. With that said, I really don't care what the gun looks like as long as it does what I want and I made it. Also, isn't blowback just a waste of gas?

I've had AEG's and they are ok. The reason I don't want one is because of batteries. They take forever to charge and they always die out at the worst times. Plus, the batteries are pretty expensive to buy. Also, the gear boxes don't last very long in my experiance, even if they are full metal.

Now, the gun itself won't be very ugly. It will look like a regular pump shotgun, just with a longer barrel and thicker stock. It will most likely be all one color, not a rainbow like the diagram.

From what I can tell, you don't know too much about airsoft to realize that it's more about function over looks.

Solutions.
1.) Buy a smart or fast charger. You shouldn't need more than one batter btw.
2.) Don't buy clone AEGs then, get a KWA or G&G.
3.) Don't tell me that I don't know about alot about airsoft when you don't even know me. You're acting like you're some veteran airsofter because you know how to hook a Co2 tank up to a gun. yeah ur cool no. You're the one who doesn't know too much about airsoft if you don't even know how to use a smart charger or to buy higher quality guns.

If you've had bad problems with gearboxes and you did know alot about airsoft as you seem to be going on about, you'd know that, to preserve a gearbox you just need to change out parts to put less stress on it. Someone's obviously never heard of new shims or a  downgraded spring.
