Author Topic: City RPGs; We need a default reputation for them.  (Read 1574 times)

Getting tired of these. You get in hoping to play a good game,
what do you get instead?

Real-Life RPG!

..-Now comes with uncontrollable terrorist organizations,
flaming religious behemoths, and downright indecency!

We need to set a default guideline on how to run these things.
A pretty high percentile of these admins which run them have
no loving idea how to do it. Usually resulting in a chaotic orgy
of Rockets flying left and Religious arguments flinging right.

It doesn't get any better than this.

DarkLight's 24/7 Real-Life RPG
I don't want you insulting my cereal, my morals or whatever the
word really means. If it's real life, it might as well be outside a
computer. So you're unpopular in your real life, want some friends?

Try to do it without making it clear you're compensating for
something. City and Life RPGs are not the way to go. Quite
honestly, I myself get on my computer to escape these things.

Now, before you scream at me for my monologue, and about
how this thread's been done over and over again I just want
to explain the fact that, and everyone will vouch for me on
this one, there is not even a gap of at LEAST five servers
on the active, un-passworded and un-full portion of the
server list, that does not contain some form of Roleplay in it.

Also, I know most of you might agree with me that we all,
especially the players that were around during the time,
miss our old gaming ways. But when the first pioneers of
CityRPG came ashore, they came offering Gold and Riches.

What they gave us, was Immoral Destruction. The Community
is very slowly but surely decaying partially due to the lack of
originality in servers. I miss the challenges. I miss the
Freebuilds. I miss the RPGs where authorities actually did their
goddamn jobs. Those are the kinds of things we need, not
numerous roleplays. Which enforces my other point, the fact
that starfishs spread their roots in the soil and expect to get
away with it where we mature forum-goers have planted our
roots. Where it's tough. In the Cement.

Take Second Life for example. Do you see large quantities of
people roleplaying a literral "Second Life"? If you do, do they
do it properly?

My point of the matter is, this situation is growing out of
control. Most of the time, City RPGs are the giant ballsacks
of the community. The Evil ones that generate multiple
and multiple little handicaps who eventually invade this sacred
forum of soliturdz. These douche bags we deal with are the
spawn of the Devil himself.

"Real-Life Simulating Roleplays", the only Real Life that lets
you shoot TruBluRage with a tank at Point-Blank and not
have anyone do anything whatsoever for saying "Jesus"
in the chat. Religion is not bad, it is not good. I myself
am religious, but I rarely try to enforce my opinions with
a high-caliber shell into someone's face. Whether in RL or
in BL.

In conclusion, I believe we should at least have some
sort of guideline or Anti-Jackass system for Roleplays.
Worst case scenario, we just go back to the old ignore
it and leave thing. I just felt like expressing my opinion
of the matter.

Action is either taken, or things will remain the same.
Whatever floats your boat. Discuss.

Agreed, RP/RPGs need admins dedicated to keep things straight.

True, most RPs are stuff these days, especially if people don't actually role play that well.

damn chat-to-shoot events.  :cookieMonster:

lol went into a server owned by noobie 2.0. Jesus Christ. Never will i venture into a CityRP like that again.

That wall of text was interesting to read.

I agree. :P

We could just not have City RPs

The only authority that does banning in my server is me.
I'm always on the watch, and if I'm brb/afk then someone else gets super for a bit.

Stop pressing enter so much, jesus H.

You turned a paragraph into a wall

I thought it made it better to digest.

They're kids.
Kids who want to be a part of something altogether greater and end up developing horrible behaviors through what they experience from people and life, expecting instant success and all that.
I often suspect that most of the people I've told to get out are younger than twelve, and while they do require to be put back into place, I am being somewhat excessive, but then they reply, and it seems that I was wrong and altogether too gentle with my argument.
I don't know what can be done about people like that, but I think that they affect all communities surrounding things they enjoy.
There will naturally be some on shooters, etc, but those require skill and they can be killed if they goof off, so there will naturally be less, however with a game like Blockland where people can do whatever they want with Legos (and hell, most people love legos), kids flock because of the gameplay, accessibility, and fun which they can have.
Couple this with the fact that they are on the internet, where you can say anything and it doesn't matter and dissipates into the aether after the text box is filled and you have a potent roostertail of ideas.

I think that this naturally will lead to how people behave in Blockland (Not just kids. Internet behavior is an issue with a with demographic.) and that they bring it here.
While it is all very well to call these people (I'd say 'backwash', but the sheer number of them is far too prolific for that term.) "spawn of the devil", Its just people entertaining themselves when they don't feel like building.
This hints at the overall idea that people are bored, and immediately head to Blockland to get busy rather than to express themselves with building, so therefore these are just bored people without a lot to do.

Calling them devil spawn seems to be a gross overstatement. They are simply sculpted by what they observed as the easiest and most successful way to survive and be 'cool' on the internet.

Sorry for the counter wall. D:

Apologies for the double toast, but posts with over 40 (or so...) different words should have the edit button in Drama.
It'd be nice for the people who care.

i still say we need preset tags on RTB that we can pick when we create our server. for viewing from the server lists.

free build
death match
game mode
clan server
role play
community theme build
no black people
competition
challenge
eventing
any other dozen things*

and you pick em from a drop down list, as many as you want to describe your new game so people can checkbox filter search the list if they wanted.
