How do you make a server dedicated?

I waited a bit till I asked this because my RPG wasn't done, but now it is almost done, and I'll need to know how to make it dedicated so people don't always get mad when I leave, which they already do while we're building. Also, are there any side-effects to having a server dedicated for Windows XP computers, because my friend said there is. I'm not that old so don't start swearing at me for not knowing.

you start a server how you want it, close the server, go to your blockland folder and doubleclick dedicated.bat
to join, click query lan

Ok I know what to click now, but I don't get the query LAN part, plus, are there any side effects?

Also, if, say, you want to be on Slate, you have to Edit the dedicated.bat file and replace bedroom with whatever map you want.

My dedicated servers don't show up in the LAN part.

When I try to change it ingame, 2 things happen:

1. no maps show up in map list
2. I lag out

I want him to come into my server and say "This server is shutting down, do the getmaplist and find out my script crashes him :D

let it try to load them for 5 min or so, then announce it a gonner

I left it for 30 mins, and nothing happened.
