Author Topic: Should the forum users have some way of showing their rep?  (Read 1012 times)

So while I was banned a long time ago. I went to the Dan-Ball Forums and the had this thing under a poster's avatar called karma. Basically, the more karma the person has, the more people like/respect them. Exault people to raise their karma and smite them to lower it. The catch is that you can only raise or lower it by 1 every hour or so.

Do you think that this should be added to the forums?

no.
there are too many flaws with that system and it has no point

Ah, may you please list some?

It would be hard to obtain a higher karma if you aren't already renowned*
Nobody would pay attention to low-rep people, even if that means somebody that just recently joined or rarely posts
People would flaunt their karma; it would be a sort of elitism

*If you are renowned people will give you karma for no reason, if you are hated people will lower karma for no reason

And also there is no reason other than to support elitism.

I think the forum is fine the way it is, I mean, it doesn't really make a difference, right?

I will say, however, I like post-specific rating systems as seen on Facepunch.

Ah ok, so should I lock now?

The RTB forum had essentially the same rating system. Was very pointless.

Yeah, I don't like things that can discriminate people. For example some one could make an ass of them selfs and get a lot of negative then totally change the way they act etc and be some one totally different but still have Negatives that people will react to.

It would give people here the feeling of arrogance and that they tower over others. IMO, it would just create controversy.

Much like the ID epidemic, probably wrong use of word but you peeps know what I mean in the end.

Yes, much like it indeed, yet there isn't much we can do about it. It's needed but at least most people understand that because you joined the site early doesn't make you a god.
