I had made a map and saved it by going to file->Save mission as, but when i saved it, it didn't come up when i went to start a game. Could this have something to do with packing a map?

No, try loading a map then loading your .mis

weird, it doesn't have a .mis file, just a .ter file (I'm think i probably did something wrong when saving it)
