Author Topic: English language. Re defined?  (Read 1341 times)

People call me "smart ass" and such and I respond by saying "Well, it's best to have all my body parts smart then having none of them smart."

Seriously, who started bending definitions.

"I can't do it, I am too tired"

"You CAN do it, but you are just to lazy"

Words like can, must, never, need, are being used poorly.

"I need a cracker"

No you don't, you want one, not need one.

"Can I go to the bathroom"

Yes you can, but I won't let you.

Discuss.

What about street or whatever the forget they call it.
Fo shizzle my nizzle?

Why do  people care so much about grammar? It so damn annoying when people go on rants about how words aren't used properly. Im pretty sure the words we use and the way we use them have been changing forever. Do we use words we used back in the 1700s?

People say need because they want to empathize everything.

Example :
"But Moooooooom, I need to go to the mall and get that new shirt before they sell out or ill just die!"

Its handicapped when people say things like, " I need to got me food."
If we dont care about grammar, everyone would be 100x worse than a redneck.

English is descriptive.
Linguistics is prescriptive.
One method is the correct method of human communication. The other is wrong.

Hint: It's not English

Language evolves to help better communicate. This I have no problem with.

Sometimes people take it overboard, into a state that you can't even understand.

That is frustrating.

"Can I go to the bathroom"

Lol at school every time we say that the teacher goes "Are you able?"

"Can I go to the bathroom"
U r supost to anser:

Dear lord, I hope you can.
