Author Topic: Vista, you son of a bitch.  (Read 772 times)

I was trying to download an MP3, but Quicktime wouldn't let me, so I went to go delete the thing from my plugins folder because I don't want to pay money to use a feature that was just blocked by Quicktime. I get most of the stuff out of the folder but as I try to delete the last Quicktime plugin file, Vista tells me I don't have permission to perform this action. There has never been any other account on my computer, and the one single account that is on the computer is an administrator. This shouldn't even matter though, because I turned off UAC. I can not figure out how to delete this file, and since I am the SOLE USER and use the ONLY ACCOUNT on the computer, I should not run into permission problems because I HAVE NO ONE WHO COULD GRANT ME THAT PERMISSION. I hate Vista.

I've had that problem too, it locks you out of your own computer. It's pretty sad if you ask me, just get a better computer.

u need admin account. or u right click mp3 download link and hit save target as

Check to see if you completely closed out of quicktime first, and then delete it.

Dang Vista. Bill Gates I deserve a refund.

You can try ending the quicktime process.

The solution is somewhat simple. You take ownership of the entire C: drive like I did :)

Go to Control Panel -> Check this computer's security status -> Other security settings -> turn off User Account Control.
It will disable all that permission bullstuff, and as an added bonus, it lets you edit files directly in system folders so you don't have to save elsewhere, delete, copy, etc just to mod a game or whatever.

The only side effect is that you'll get a nag window at the bottom right telling you that you should turn it on every time you start up your computer/log on, but that's insignificant.

I turned off UAC.

Anyway, I found out I just needed to close Firefox, which has nothing to do with me not having permission.

I can't seem to figure out HOW to turn user account control off.

All I can find are "turn it back on because hackers turned it off" buttons.

Damn, didn't see that.
Didn't read all of that, just skimmed through it. XD

Use the hidden admin account. It's real, google it. I used it to download a WoW patch cuz my step-dad wasn't home.
