Wrong. EVERY copy comes with the "beta". As long as you own ODST you have access to the beta when the beta goes live next year.

When will Bungie EVER let you see any of their main characters' faces?

Why would they? It's a great storytelling aspect, it leaves room for the player to imagine what they look like (even though John-117 is described in one of the books; He's blonde and his skin is extremely pale-white).
