Author Topic: My 8800 GT is dying. Help me choose out a new card.  (Read 1310 times)

If I haven't told you already, my 8800 GT is dying (if it runs anything 3d, it fills the screen with garbage, and halts the computer, making it unusable until you restart.)

So, I need some help here. I need to choose a graphics card out, but I'm not sure where to go.
I don't have any money, but my parents volunteered to pay for it (if it's not too much).

All I really require is that it's better than the 8800 GT. It can be either nVidia or ATi.
Like I said, don't link me to a godly-priced video card. There's no way I'll be able to get it immediately.

Thanks in advance.

The 9800GT is good. Dunno how much it costs.

Yes, 9800GT is very good.
I think its around $120 for an EVGA 512 MB one.

HD 4870, great card ordering it myself, free shipping on newegg at the moment

or just wait the 5xxx series

The problem with the 9800GT is that the cooling isn't that great, it works and all but your card will get a little hot and your fan speed will pick up.

That card looks pretty nice, actually.
I'll keep it in mind, and hopefully I'll have this whole thing dealt with tomorrow.

I'm still taking suggestions, though.

If you're on a budget, the 4850 works just as well as the 4870.  It's what I have and I can run Fallout 3 perfectly on the highest settings.

This is the most similar card I could find to the one I have.

this

Go with the 200 series if you really have the money.

Mine doesn't.

9800GT = 8800GT
Literally. It's just a rebrand of the same card, except 9800 has support for tri-SLI I think. So yeah, same card new sticker. I have one myself.

Mine doesn't either.

Well, I don't really want to work with another x800 cards, due to what happened to this one. So, that's out of the question.

How old is your dying 8800?

Try waiting until they release the 5xxx series. You can prolly get any radeon card below that generaton for a better price for sure.
