Author Topic: Whats so special bout dedicated?  (Read 1953 times)

All I'm sure about is that you can run the server with out being on the game, Is that it or is their more perks?

If you have visual lag the server doesn't suffer.

If you have visual lag the server doesn't suffer.
Example:
10000 mininuke projectiles spawn and explode
Your computer won't suffer anything because it's not trying to display these explosions
The clients still suffer as long as they can see the explosions.

couldn't you by theory make a dedicated server by just making a server and being afk while you do something else? :o

It's not a dedicated server if you do that. If it's being hosted and the host disconnects, shutting the server down, it's a listen server.

It's easier to just have a dedicated server instead of being afk. ingame.

But the sad truth is I once had an admin who took advantage of my dedi and turned it into his own server.

That's why i only have my very trustworthy friend as an admin.

Good parts:
Less memory usage (no client or rendering) so you can host and do other things with less lag.
Clients wont see "LAG" with their controls frozen when you do anything that slows Blockland down. alt+tabbing out of fullscreen, doing something in options, watching explosions or other intensive occurences.
Ability to join other servers while hosting.
Ability to raise max players over 32. Remember to forward extra ports, example, 100 players would need ports 28000-28100 forwarded
Bad parts:
None.

people can abuse your server by spamming it with stuff

Just a thought, I'm not sure if it's always true
