Author Topic: Rattle snakes  (Read 1204 times)

if you live in the forest/mountain/desert/etc. area you know of these annoying little bastards. basicly what this topic is for, is that my dad just shot one of the buggers. so i was typing in the "What pisses you off?" or somethin topic when i heard the words "Lola (teh cat) got *muffled* rattlesnake" so i go upstairs to my mom standing on the deck and my dad hiking up a hill in rain boots, armed with a shovel, flashlight, and bb gun with a single shot. theres the loud rattling sound during all of this, and my mom says "Sam, careful! we need more light! Sam!" being as nervous as ever, and then we hear the quiet *POW* of the bb gun and the rattleing stops instantly. now my guess is that my dad is cutting off it's rattle and adding it to his "collection" of them. time for you to post your rattle snake stories. no rattle snakes? then any type of snakes. no snakes at all? then a sybling(same thing right). no sybling? post somewhere else

Edit fer moar info: the rattling stopped cause the first shot when through the tail hitting some nerves n' stuff, then in the torso as it tried to escape, and the final shot through the head. cut the head and rattle off with a machete. judging by the rattle it was 13 years old

Edit: it didn't die from the first shot, it fled down the hill and he chased it, shot it once more why it was fleeing and again when it stoped. he had to hand reload the bullets :O. we just cut off the head in the back yard and we're gonna wait till it stops moving to get the rattle

Edit Edit: this is my 1000th post :O

I've lived in Arizona for 8 years, and I have yet to see a live rattlesnake.

I did see a dead one, though. Our neigbours shot one when we were in Minnesota and asked if they could put it in our freezer so we could see it before it rots. When we got home, it was probably one of the most awkward things I've seen.

Of course, there's plenty of other deadly things down here like scorpions or killer bee swarms, so I honestly don't care if I see a live one or not.

I have seen a lot on hiking trails and one in my backyard which my dad cut the head off of.  :cookieMonster:

I've lived in AZ all my life and have actually never seen a snake or a coyote.

Not for long.

Hand me my phone, I need to make a call.

Up in the mountains they sleep in their holes for the winter, in the summer they are out, just don't walk in tall grass or go near rocks. Very sneaky :(.
