Author Topic: Pink Floyd: "The Wall"  (Read 1827 times)

Animals came out before The Wall.

Also, I don't think any one on this forum is a bigger Fink Ployd fan than myself.
Joo got shoes like this?
p.s lets not make this a "Ima bigger Floyd then you" topic
Oh and for those who can not see it it, its the Wish you where here album cover

Personally, The Wall no longer holds that same level of awe it used to hold for me.

I mean sure, it has it's moments, and as an overall piece it's quite amazing, and most definitely epic. But then, if you take a single song, disregarding David's Comfortably Numb (especially considering it wasn't even meant to be on that album, but instead a solo album), most of the songs can't really stand alone without the rest of the album to keep it going. Another Brick in the Wall and it's parts Hey You are great ones as well. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Floyd from the earliest Sid years, to the Roger years, to the David years, but to me, The Wall and it's predecessor: The Final Cut (what Water's called The Wall 2) have more so become simply Roger screaming in my ear about his daddy. While it tells a great story, songs from this album, and Final Cut, again, can't really go without the rest of the album.

Albums like Dark Side of the Moon, now there is how an album should be. Each song coincides with one another perfectly, while also standing as individuals themselves. Dark Side can easily put you in a trance of musical extacy much like classical Beethoven (or at least, does for me). Now, The Wall is a perfect album, and a quintessential listen for any Floyd fan. And, I admit, I could probably sing to you both sides of the disks in perfect order and all from memory if I had to, and it's quite to thing to listen to while stoned (no, I haven't ever done so, but I have been high up on pain killers once).

The Wall and it's movie are both great pieces of art that can really get you thinking. But from a musical stand by, some of the songs are a tad over top with vocals, and not focused enough on the music. All in all though, it's a great listen and also a great watch. It has songs that do stick out when they should, and others that while may be filter are also incredible at telling a story. After listening to this album, I seriously suggest taking a look at Final Cut.

But be sure to hear some other of their greats, my favorites right now are:

Dark Side of the Moon
Echoes
Momentary Lapse of Reason
Division Bell
Wish You Were Here and
The Early Pink Floyd Singles which is a collection of their earlier 60's hits all in one, including Arnold Lane, See Emily Play, It Would Be So Nice, and Point Me at the Sky.

Also, for those of you non Floyd fans who are interested in all of this, feel free to talk to me, I love talking about one of my favorite bands.

I enjoy Pink Floyd.

Live in Pompeii is my favorite of anything they have done.
Shine on you crazy diamonds is great as well, much better then Dark Side or The Wall.

That's an impressive collection you've got there. Got any bootlegs?

Not really, no. I have more boots of ACDC or Hendrix. Not so much in my floyd collection .
I got a scan of the Pink Floyd comic they put out if that counts.
