A url is basically a human readable IP address. When you go to a website, the url gets sent to something called a DNS (domain name system) server which translates it into a number that computers can understand and handle.

The IP address points to a machine. / points to the root folder of the machine (or the bit that's accessible by the internet anyway). img points to a folder called img. betaCity2.html points to a single web page contained inside of this folder.
