I counter your Switzerland example with Japan. All guns are banned to the civilian populous in Japan, and they've got the lowest murder rate in the entire world. Not just murder, either. They even have the lowest gun crime rate in the world, as well.

In my opinion, Communism is a good system of government. The problem is that it fails the second someone gets greedy or jealous. That's why it will never work in the US. So I never push the issue on that.

Secondly, Inverted may be A Christian basher, but he's restrained from using it against me in this argument, so I applaud his restraint.

I agree with Inverted about outlawing semi autos and autos. Civilians just don't need that kind of fire power short of martial law where the Government, if it sees fit, should distribute those weapons on a need to have basis.

And Democrats do some bad things, and some do good things. I found an example of some bad ones. This discusses about how Dems and Repubs alike pardoned Bush for his unlawful spying a few years back. Tsk Tsk. :(

No, I don't think they should own them short of a world war breaking out. As Inverted said, there is no applicable use for them at all in today's civilian population. That should be controlled by the military and as I said before, handed out when needed in the event of a land invasion, which I honestly doubt would ever happen now that nukes are the threat. I said nothing about constitution specifics. You assume I was.

I'm not against semi automatic rifles. Some are needed for sport or hunting. Fulling automatic weapons, on the other hand, are unneeded in our society save for the military. We have too many poor people and a violent culture for access to such weapons to be so easy. For criminals who manage to get them, it's not the random civilians' job to deal with them. The police exist for a reason.

Because rabbits and deer pose such a threat to the hunter. I say go bear hunting with a knife and a bow and arrow. If you come back after the weekend, then you've earned the trophy. There is a perfectly good way to win a fight with a bear using a 6 inch hunting knife. Cavemen hunted with stone and sticks for thousands of years and they never had semi automatic rifles. They did just fine. We are living proof of that.

I will agree with this. It has ruined our country. People are just inherently corrupt and greedy by nature, so that whole Utopian dream I have that abolishes all monetary value will never come to pass short of an economic collapse and resulting nuclear fallout from nations desperately trying to establish power over each other. Even then, I doubt the remaining human population can get past the greed and selfishness that caused their eventual downfall. /humanity

I'm just saying, I'm in support of the May 1986 assault weapon ban, which means you have to go through the legal system and pay out your ass in order to even think of owning one. Personally I don't see the use in one because I prefer to be a marksman with Single-shot or semi-auto, Bullets cost money. If you want to own one, Fine go through the legal system and have the ATF invade your house to check up on things when ever they want. We don't need anymore gun control.

Benjamin Franklin actually said that. John Adams, like most of our Founding Fathers, was in favor of a strong government. Heck, Benjamin Franklin was actually in favor of a strong one, as well. That specific quote was actually in reference to having laws altered by a non-representational government (i.e. Parliament), and had absolutely nothing to do with your agenda. A pity that you've twisted and mangled the message of such a good quote.
