Persephone is not a demon. She was the daughter of Demeter, goddess of harvest. Each summer, near the end, Persephone leaves her mother to go back and spend time with Hades, and crops die with the onset of fall and winter. When she returns at the start of spring, the flowers and such grow back because Demeter is no longer depressed.
