I severely doubt that we are the only sentient life in the universe. Or at least are the only current sentient life. They may of been some before us.

Considering the alien is immune to all of our diseases, sure. More than likely an alien would most likely die shortly after it's left it's ship because the diseases we humans cure are still around, we are just immune to it.
