Author Topic: Building a new computer!  (Read 2190 times)

I may soon be building a new computer, and I would like to know what you think I should get in terms of parts.  I already have a list, but the idea is that you can suggest stuff to me.  Keep in mind that I have a limited budget and would rather keep things as cheap as possible.  Here's the list:

Processor
Motherboard
Hard drive
Power supply
RAM
Video Card
Case
Keyboard & mouse
Webcam (still thinking about this one)

Here is an optional processor that i saw.  I have a $25 gift certificate to Best Buy, so I figured I would only have to earn $20 more than with the other processor.

I have space parts in my garage, so things like the CD drive and stuff isn't needed.

Good stuff except the case, you can get one 100 times cooler at Best Buy for like 10 bucks.

Ditch the motherboard, ditch the cpu, and ditch the graphics card.

Motherboard is made by some brand that sucks and its open box meaning its USED.
CPU is awful, you're better off with the core 2 duo E7500 because pentiums these days are really awful.
RAM is alright.
Power supply brand is sketchy and not high-powering.
Graphics is god-awful. If you're looking to do any gaming at most you'll do source games around low.

If you're building a computer, don't choose the cheap parts.

Get rid of that graphics card.  It's pretty bad.

If you can afford more on the graphics card go for a GTS 250. They're a bit over $100 and are really nice cards.

Read, anyone?  My budget is $200 plus what ever else I can earn.  I'm setting a goal of earning $150 or so, so there is some leeway.  As for the graphics, my current graphics card is older than this one and it does fine.

I would appreciate a link.

What's wrong with used?
Thanks for the CPU tip though.

I don't really need THAT much power...

Unlike you, I have to earn ALL my money, I don't get allowance.

Thanks, if I end up with enough, then I'll go with this.

Used has a greater potential to be broken/worn out.

True...
Basically most brands do a "if it works, ship it" policy when it comes to open box.

So do you have any low priced graphics cards in mind?  (Say up to $50, $75 at the most)

$69.99 - $15 = $55 w/ rebate.
I like it, but it uses PCI Express 2.0, and the card only has regular PCI express.  Ideas?

Hmm i was going to try to build one one time, but then told i should notand to think about more of complicated parts of assembly. Now my cousin said he knows how and will do it for me so i am going to be doing this after i go on a mini-vacation thingy, because i will probably spend all of my money there. Oh what i was getting at is, oh yeah i don't like thecase the one i was getting might be more money, but i will have a higher budget than $200, but unlike you i am starting from scratch.
