What's the italicized "I" supposed to mean?
He's saying that other people might see stupid people, but it is rare for
him to.
If you didn't know, italicized words are supposed to be 'stressed' words, if you were speaking out loud; it creates emphasis and can actually change the general meaning of a sentence.
"I didn't know
you were coming."
This implies that s/he didn't want said person there. Say it out loud - can you tell that it is a little mean?
"
I didn't know you were coming."
This implies that s/he didn't know, but others might've.
Etc, etc.
