This might seem like drama, but I put it in general discussion because I expect people to be discussing about this. This is sort of like an everyday thing people would converse about, because you usually see add-on creators and gallery builders.

I have been noticing for a long time, that add-on creators are more noticed than builders. I noticed that when a good builder comes into a server, nobody cheers for him/her. Once a add-on creator comes in, everyone cheers for him/her. The add-on creator doesn't even have to be that good, and his reputation will boost up more than a very good builder. Bushido, Kaje, Pandan, Stratofortress, etc. you hear those guys a lot, right? Do you hear these guys as much? Barnabas, TheGeek, Jetpuff, Randomguy, etc. You probably didn't even know TheGeek built things. You probably thought he only makes add-ons. In fact, TheGeek built the MotE Mansion exterior. I think that the builders should be more noticed than the add-on creators, or as noticed, since this game was pretty much made for building. I'm not sure if this could even change anyone's views or not, but I'm pretty sure other builders feel the same way.

Build are what people want, but need Add-ons to make them perfect. Without a Add-ons the build could suck, but without a Build Add-ons are pointless.
They both just even themselves out.

Yes, this is so true.  Building is more of an art then making the same weapon for the 30th time.  I really think that people who can build well should be as "famous" as the add-on makers are right now.  After all, it's what the game is all about.

there are only like 4 addons i ever have on my server, none alter a build in any way.
and my server is one of the busiest.

Building without add-ons won't make it worse. It's just more time consuming.

Depends on what you're building.
The reason why Add-ons could be considered to be liked more is because they add interactivity. When someone makes say, a very nice cathedral, sure, people will gape at it at first and maybe look around for a bit but after that they will completely forget about it. Add-ons provide a building block for players enjoyment. The more fun someone had with someones build, the more likely they are to remember it.

If I see a good add-on creator, I remember him/her.

I do not see many of either now-a-days, however I know they exist somewhere.

This isn't about how the creator is having fun, its how he/she are being recognized. Like I previously stated, the more enjoyment someone has, the more likely they are to remember the creator.

Everybody says to me "oh, you're the guy who made the slate maps" or "oh you're the guy who made the laser weapons".
As much as I appreciate the recognition, nobody seems to remember USSR or the various things I have built in the past. Not many but still they were cool. Cosei, Chideo, and right now with my Mars Colonization RP. Even with this cool build at the moment that I made like 90%, when I am hosting it, people are more concerened with me having made the laser weapons that I am not even hosting at that time.
Ah wells.
At least I have some fans I suppose, even if they aren't what I would want them to be for. Yay?



Side note:
Cookie, finish your loving water collection facility already you forget. Every person to go on my server bugs me about why "they cant go inside s-7"
