Author Topic: I need to initiate a system restore without having access to the "start" bar  (Read 712 times)

I got a virus and now explorer is gone. No, I can not execute explorer.exe, but I need to initiate "System Restore". I'm running Windows XP. Can someone assist me?

I had the same virus on my laptop, but Vista did the only useful thing it's ever done and automatically initiated a system restore once it recognized the whole computer was being raped. Now, I need to do this on XP.

Here's the target on Vista.

%systemroot%\system32\rstrui.exe

I don't know if that helps. It works with windows+R on Vista.

I need the target on XP, but I'll see what I can do with that.

Wait the virus sapped your start bar?

Find a program shortcut on your desktop
Change the target

"C:\WINDOWS\system32\restore\rstrui.exe"

But thanks for the target.

Thanks to the magic of sysrestore, I am back up and running.

Oh yeah, Vista still sucks even after it shows superiority by automatically saving your ass from a virus.

sysrestore has gotten me out of some deep holes before.

Yes. One good deed does not make up for the fact that it is still a stuffty OS.
Locking.
