Author Topic: xC's Ableton Live Music [3 songs]  (Read 889 times)

These are some of my earliest songs created with Ableton Live. The track 9.1 is an improvement of Untitled 9, if you didn't get that. 9 sounds a lot more experimental (and not in the artistic way) but is my first submission to Newgrounds, and 9.1 is my second.

Nov 6: Untitled 7 is now up. This is my first song using original parts that doesn't sound really experimental and unfinished. If I post any of 1 through 6, it won't be the true "original" of it.

Untitled 7
Untitled 9
Untitled 9.1

Listening to 9:
Haha, this is nice, but at some points the bass is a bit too deep, even for my headphones. :U
It builds up nice and long, but there's no beat even half way through the song (I haven't even finished it yet)
It's also kind of bland, you might wanna fix that. But.. if you had some percussion in there.. And some more variation.. It would be nice :D
Also, I'm considering Ableton live, I got coupons with my new Korg stuff, should I?

Listening to 9.2:
Obvious tempo change, that's nice.. I like your panning. If you did that manually, then I say cool. :3
It seems to be the same thing as 9 so far, just sped up.. I'm not done with it yet. Oh, also, the synth you're using has a bit of a pluck to it. If I were you I'd have kicks every beat so it sounds nice with the leads you've got going on.
You wouldn't mind if I remixed your songs, would you? :D

Oh, one more thing, if I do get Ableton live, I would enjoy collaborating with you :3 If you want my MSN, PM me :D

Edit: Actually, add my MSN. It's a good idea :P Exothehedgehog@hotmail.com

Best first response ever.

That's true. Haha.. ohh.. You should hear Untitled 6.... >_>

I didn't think of it as a build-up, that would just about make the entire thing a "build-up".. My musical background is in string orchestra, where the "beat" in my mind is basically just the lower melody. Heh, I'll keep that in mind then. Though, on this one, it would be kind of hard to implement a percussive beat unless it was more simple, as you mention below. I might find a way to, eventually, and make 9.2... I'm probably going to move to a different one soon though.
Also, I'm considering Ableton live, I got coupons with my new Korg stuff, should I? I think so. It's pretty shweet.

It seems to be the same thing as 9 so far, just sped up.. I'm not done with it yet. The first half of it is mostly just 9, yesh.Oh, also, the synth you're using has a bit of a pluck to it. psh, as though I didn't notice that, man xP If I were you I'd have kicks every beat so it sounds nice with the leads you've got going on. not too bad an idea..
You wouldn't mind if I remixed your songs, would you? :D Oh, sure :D be sure to gimmie credit, tho'. But, yes, that'd be neat.

Hmm..
Well I could totally imagine a beat for that. It's a basic one but that's okay because the synths are pretty sweet.
I would imagine it as buildup:
1 kick, rest, rest, rest, kick+clap, rest, rest, rest, repeat
2 kick+hat, rest, rest, rest, kick+clap+hat, rest, rest, rest, etc
3kick+hat, rest, hat, rest, kick+clap+hat, rest, hat, rest, etc
4kick+hat, hat, kick+clap+hat, hat, kick+hat, hat, kick, hat, etc
4 would depend on your tempo. If it's over 120 then don't use 4. If you are aiming for something unlike trance or dance, don't use these and use kick, snare, and hat combos that sound a lot hotter. (More like hiphop)

Oh jeez bro, listening to 7 :S
It kind of doesn't flow well together.. Also, that high pitched synth that sounds like a scratch in the background doesn't sound too needed. Also, your drums are kind of.. Well.. Odd :P

Tom

They lack catchy-ness. Theres nothing that makes me want to keep listening. Also you need to add more "layers", so its not just two synths. Like JD said, drums would be nice too.

They also need musical buildup. One way is to make the chords change faster and faster.

They lack catchy-ness. Theres nothing that makes me want to keep listening. That's sooo helpful.

Also you need to add more "layers", so its not just two synths. Wall of sound =/= Good music. Also, did you bother listening to all of them?

Like JD said, drums would be nice too. Polly want a cracker?

They also need musical buildup. One way is to make the chords change faster and faster. Not the effect I wanted. Don't tell me what it "needs" because that is your opinion. What you would do and what it "needs" are two completely different things.

Well that's why it's called 7. It came before 9. I was even worse then than I am now. Thanks for the helpful ideas. Also, check your loving e-mail before you tell me to add that again.

Hehe okay then. I don't check my E-Mail, I've got 4,000+ E-Mails so I just gave up.
