Author Topic: Mapping in AutoCAD  (Read 5100 times)

Can you send me the drawing file?

I don't know what version you've got but make sure you're saving in AutoCAD2007 format and not 2010.

Oh okay, never mind then, that's what I was doing.

So, I keep seeing "open in a torque map", "start a torque map", etc. and I don't quite know what that means or how to do it. Also, what are the "brushes" in Quark?

Starting a new torque map means clicking games in Quark and setting it to Torque, then clicking the button I highlighted in the attached screenshot.

Brushes are any old volume. Blocks, cylinders, spheres, arches, etc are all brushes.

Alright, thanks, especially for being patient, you probably get pelted with questions too often. P:

EDIT: Alright, I'm stuck again. I copied my lovely box, pasted it into a new Torque map, and saved as a .map. I thought the next step would be to convert it to a .dif, so I tried to run it through Map2Dif and it says "Unable to find texture 'concrete' (.jpg or .png)". I never put concrete on anything. D: Do you know what could be wrong?

Here's what I did step-by-step:

1. Create 3D box in AutoCAD.
2. Saved it as a 2007 .dwg.
3. Imported the box in Sketchup.
4. Exploded the box.
5. Exported the box as a VMF.
6. Opened the box in Quark.
7. Copied the box.
8. Changed the Game to Torque.
9. Opened a new Torque map.
10. Pasted the box.
11. Saved as a .map.
12. Put the .map through the Map2Dif, got the above error.

I either did something wrong or forgot to do something.

You didn't texture it. concrete.jpg and null.jpg are the default textures for new torque maps.

Install this pack:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/quark/Torque_textures.zip

That will let you use all the default torque textures in quark. Maybe later I'll get all the default Blockland textures and make a quark plugin out of them.

Then follow this tutorial to texture:
http://quark.sourceforge.net/infobase/maped.tutorial.polyhedrons.html#texturing

When you go to pick textures, you should see a tree view (a bit like windows explorer) to the left that lists all the textures you have. There will be two categories, Searched and Torque Textures. Under Torque Textures you'll see Lees, Book, common and general. Pick a texture out of there.

To compile your map, go to Torque>Export220Map/Build High Detail Map
It will export your map and your textures.

If you need to find out how to do something quick, the quark infobase is the best place to look:
http://quark.sourceforge.net/infobase/index.html

It's even got the definition of a brush:
Quote
Most basicly its a solid cube which is convex. A polyhedron consists of at least 4 faces so they create a 3-sided pyramid, and up to several hundred faces which probably will be something like a sphere. Synonyms that are commonly used for polyhedrons are; brush, cube.

But if you can't find something or don't know where to look, feel free to ask, I don't really mind answering questions about interiors and mapping. I just get annoyed when people still need help editing a shortcut to start the mission editor even after watching a 4 minute video on how to right click and type 2 words. I'm just about ready to charge people a dollar for me to open up remote desktop and do it for them.

Can i have a DL link for QuArK, all versions I found were broke.

I doesn't import into Sketchup, Blender or AutoCAD for some reason.

Weird, the first one imported fine for me :o

Can you do this same thing in Inventor?

Can you do this same thing in Inventor?

It should work, just make sure you're exporting as a dwg. You might be able to use stl as well, but I think that's a sketchup pro feature.

This works. I probably won't get to it until the weekend. I've got to redraw it.
