Author Topic: Raging in/at games  (Read 1235 times)

When I was at a server earlier today, a DM, someone said something that raises an interesting question.  What they said can be summed up as this: if you get angry when doing bad in a game, or for other game-related reasons in general, you have no life.  To this, I can not totally agree.
I think it's perfectly fine for someone to get mad while playing a game, or provoked, or frustrated, etc.  You see, it is only something that would take any quality of life from them if the issue constantly nags at them, always occupying their thoughts, when they aren't playing the game.  If one becomes enraged at another player or frustrated at the game, and it doesn't bother them when they aren't playing, they certainly aren't some life-lacking degenerate.  If the game (as I am currently referring to electronic games) was something like soccer or some other sport you might play after school and you grew angry or frustrated, no one would accuse you of not having a life, so if you grew angry at a videogame, why should someone say something like that?
Of course, in life it isn't so bad to become a little over-occupied with your sport since it's healthy excersise or whatever you feel the reason may be.  That's where there's a difference, as becoming too occupied with a game is generally frowned upon.  Either way, getting angry or frustrated while playing a game isn't anything terrible, just as long as it doesn't carry over to your life.

Opinions?

Eh, I get pissed when someone targets me in-game.

But thinking about it afterward?  That's just stupid.

100% agree.
With the both of you.

You gotta play it cool like me. I punch my wall and slam my head against the desk but in the chat I am calm and collective.
CANT READ MY CANT READ MY NO HE CANT READ MY POKER FACE

I agree, online gaming is simply another form of communication. If it wasn't, then there would be no need for it.

I've never gotten to the point in which I constantly think about any game, I've gotten close to that point in the past though. Dofus and SSB are insanely addicting I think.

I remember playing Dofus.  I was the skeleton guy.  :D

Someone then ran into one of my traps, and then killed me.

I never really got in to Dofus, should I try it again?

Good.  I stopped just in time.

If you believe you can decide who has a life, or even what a "life" is, you have no life.

Man, we didn't even find an excuse to say inb4inv3rted.

Me and Bisjac have a friend who has a habit of punching holes in his wall and once even ripped out the cd drawer of his xbox for the simple reason of a game "Cheating". Many hours of hilarity when we hear about it.

Lol'd. I have some friends like that.

Mind giving us an example of the game 'cheating'?
